“Dark matter pub.” I feel like with all this new science and technology Dark Matter wouldn’t be as cool then as it is now.

Let’s be real. Only reason Dex is going with them is because General Cyprian Cortas is playing matchmaker.

How I imagine the naming in this book shaking down. “We need an interesting and weird name because only then will we be memorable!” “I got it! Klaren! It’s Karen... but with an L.” “Perfect!”

Plot! We have a plot! Yay yay yay!!! Pretty good premise I guess. Track down missing brother of girl who died. Fight evil queen. Get death sentence lifted by father of brother and girl. “Fly true” off into the distance. I appreciate the simplicity.

“...as she whirled and leaped. She knocked her varillium cuffs into faces, drawing bursts of blood, and kicked her legs out, toppling her opponents like stars falling from the sky.” I can’t picture what is going on here. Have they even studied the art of sword fighting?

“In her place stood the warrior he’d trained and hardened and turned into something devilishly delicious.” Ew. No. No. No. No. Someone erase that sentence from my memory.

What the fuck is an Adhiran darowak?????

“You should take up dancing again. Perhaps it would ease some of that deadly tension you’re carrying around.” Is this suppose to be witty banter?

When I read this “I am Valen Cortas. Vengeance will be mine.” I just think Russell Crowe did it better with “My name is Maximus Decimus Meridius, commander of the Armies of the North, General of the Felix Legions, loyal servant to the true emperor, Marcus Aurelius. Father to a murdered son, husband to a murdered wife. And I will have my vengeance, in this life or the next.”

Okay. Here we go! Live updates as we read. First of all, this book has 98 chapters. Which means that either there are a lot of tiny chapters which is annoying and often a mark of lazy story telling OR this book is a heck of a lot longer than it needs to be. Also, if you write 98 chapters, why not just get to 100?
