I've got the hunger for novels and feel a little put off by short stories, just for the moment. Sustained plots feel foreign to me at times, and I dig it.

Been reading a lot of short stories lately that don't count toward my 100 books in 2011. "Twins" by J.C. Oates, "Father's Day" by M. Connelly, "A Day Meant to Do Less" by K. Minor, and LOTS of academic articles, etc. Whew!

I'm once again looking for short stories that deal with domestic situations that are twisted. Joyce Carol Oates's Haunted is officially out of print. Any suggestions? New, old, doesn't matter.

New Goal: Read one classic book between each contemporary book. I'm out of touch with my lit past.

I'm still doing the same thing I wrote on my August 5th update. Has it been that damn long? Sheesh.

It's taken me about a week to get here due to the search for sources to understand this book. It's complicated, but part of a paper I'm revising for a conference.

I've noticed that I like to read a lot of books at once. And I am actually reading them--no frontin'. I'm also reading a lot of academic articles right now to revise my paper I'm presenting at &NOW. Those don't count toward my 100 books in 2011 goal. Bummer, because they are painfully complicated.

So far, quite strange. The man is eating his own feet. Has the crazy vibe that's very experimental while still making sense.

I've been thinking about this short story about a haunted baby carriage, and it drove me nuts that I couldn't remember the author. I just found out: Roddy freakin' Doyle's "The Pram."

It's slow going with this collection, not because I dislike it, but b/c it is so long. I have many other books I want to read, so I keep getting distracted.

I'm skipping a couple of stories because I already read them in Gaza Blues. It seems profitable, but I hate when the people putting together the collection do that.
