“A lie was something you told because you were mean or a coward. A story was something you made up out of something that might’ve happened. Only you didn’t tell it like it was; you told it like you thought it should have been.” Beautiful.

“All gods who receive homage are cruel. All gods dispense different without reason. Otherwise they would not be worshipped. Through indiscriminate suffering men know fear and fear is the most divine emotion. It is the stones for altars and the beginning of wisdom. Half hogs are worshipped in wine and flowers. Real gods require blood.”
STRAIGHT. BARS! “Love, having become a god, becomes a demon.”

Yes, I just updated after a page. I could update every half page, realistically. It’s one of those books that was written for me in my stage of life.

This book is ridiculous. Good, but ridiculous— in length, in depth, and in characters. I found a character list of the main characters. There are 46 of them.
Next time I read this, I’m dragging around a white board to keep track of all this.

Alas, if only greenhouse gases had a similar effect on wars as it does glaciers, then climate change could be a twisted quid pro quo.

For love made me and fed me and kept me in better days? I have only loved you for your beauty as you once loved me for mine in the days before the world moved on…you scar me with nails and put burning drops of quicksilver in my nose; you have set the animals on me, so you have, and they have eaten of my softest parts Yet still I love you and would serve you and even bring the magic again, if you would allow me.”

My sister recommended this book to me after seeing it on Tik-Tok (or Book-Tok? Idk I don’t use it). I suspect she wants to know the story but doesn’t want to spend 300 pages reading it. Booky Big Brother is the solution to the problem!

Does anyone have advice on reading epic poetry? 1st book of 12 was a little hard to read. Maybe I need to ask the coffee shop workers to turn off the music and force everyone to be silent as I read list of obscure villians, demons, and hellish creatures from ancient mythologies.
