時間的價值並非單純來自你個人擁有多少時間，而是能否與你喜愛的人共度。

做一件你不可能出類拔萃之事，就可以暫時不必要焦慮要善用時間。

當你與時間的關係幾乎完全是工具性的，當下這一刻便會失去意義。

你再也無法回頭的時候，焦慮會消失，因為現在只有一個方向可走：你要前進，走向你的選擇帶來的結果。

一旦你真正了解，錯過世上絕大多數的體驗是必然的結果，那麼有太多事物尚未體驗過，將不再是個問題。你得以全心享受你實際上有時間體驗的滄海一粟，也更能在每一刻自由選擇做最重要的事。

讓時間使用你，不把生命當成讓自己功成名就的機會，而是回應你所處的歷史時空的需求。

人啊，過的不是想過的日子，也不是不想過的日子，人們過的是可以過的日子。如此而已。

對現在的我來說，離開很好，留下來也很好，認清這兩種生命選擇都能帶來滿足於自在，人生沒有非怎麼樣不可的苦情，給了我一種安心而平衡的感覺。如果不論怎麼選都有好好生活的可能，也都能通往令人安慰的結局，或走或留，大概是人生中少數特別寬容的選擇題了。

對某些人來說，學姊可能是個偶爾成功、偶爾平庸的學者，但對我而言，學姊有時候是好學者，有時候是好女兒，用不同面向的好組合起來的人生，沒有令人沮喪的理由。

在美國，認識自己的方式是「慎獨」，透過「即使沒有人看的時候，還是想做給自己看」的那些事來定義自己。在香港認識自己的過程則非常「入世」：人潮都往一個方向走，你跟不上那樣的腳步，便知道適合自己的，是另一種生活。
