for a novel published more than a hundred years ago, i really enjoy the complexity of it. christine daaé is a classic kind of unreliable narrator referred to as "an innocent eye", because of her naivety. but also!! this novel discusses disability and what that means for a society that is highly driven by aesthetics and vanity. it's AMAZING.

it's because by reiterating goldstein's words, orwell makes us privy to and a part of the brotherhood as well. i brought this up with my prof and he was just as interested with the idea!
