I wonder if there was/is a point in Gale’s radicalization that he could have been deterred. Was it before the slaughter of 12? Or the death of his father? Or seeing his childhood friend carted off to die and then seeing her enter some pseudo-relationship with the baker’s boy?

Either way, 11/12 year old me definitely did not grasp how cold Gale has become.

It’s interesting reading these and remembering that Katniss is at best 17. Still a child. These horrible decisions being thrust on a 17 year old. Katniss is an anomaly of a YA Protagonist because she does not directly fight, she instead is pushed into the direction and then becomes set in it.
