I was surprised to find poems in this book, as I thought it was a book of short stories. There's a series of poems about a young boy who is obsessed with dinosaurs. He writes down everything he knows about them and shares what he knows with his family. The last poem in the series speaks directly to the reader: "Why don't you write a poem about someone special using important facts you know about them?" (Mbalia 42%).

When Beatty made Montag burn his house, it reminded me of the first scene of the book, in which Montag showed enjoyed toward burning. This time, he seemed to enjoy burning Mildred's things, almost cleansing the house of her. The author used a simile comparing books to birds like in the beginning too, but this time he describes "their wings ablaze with red and yellow feathers," which reminded me of a phoenix (110).

As I'm re-reading the book, I am astonished how many times Bradbury hints at this war going on that nobody seems to know anything about. When Mildred and Montag are reading the books at their house, a bomber is above their house "gasping, murmuring, whistling like an immense, invisible fan" (Bradbury 70). I honestly don't remember so many references to the war the first time I read the book.

Even though I've read this book several times, the author's use of images still astounds me. Bradbury describes the emotional distance between Montag and his wife Mildred as they lay in bed with a vivid metaphor. Montag is on "a winter island separated by an empty sea" from Mildred--even though they are in the same bed (Bradbury 39). I can't imagine being married to somebody like Mildred who is so disconnected.
