My prediction: Alaska dies by the end of this novel, most likely a suicide. She strikes me as an undiagnosed manic-depressive with a rocky home life; her "life library"—her collection of books to read before she dies—exists as a bargaining chip; once she's read these, she's decided, she'll escape from this life, and on her own terms. That's the kind of girl Alaska is, and it's tragic. But maybe I'm wrong; we'll see.
