Clearly, the author is passionate about his subject . The premise is intriguing . I often enjoy reading biographies.

BUT … the level of detail results in a snail’s pace . I can’t go in any longer . Filing with “could not finish” books.

You don’t have to be a baseball fan to become absorbed in the life of this unusual and important man.

It could have been a series of short stories, gently strung together ,each about a different character in the town.

Currently on vacation in Maine, I see a lot of resilience and reinvention (whether rebuilding after huge fires destroyed towns or adapting the seafood industry to climate change ) as opposed to a feeling of deterioration in the book.

Kind of fluffy.
