Today, I got a recommendation from Goodreads that "based on my reading preferences" I might enjoy "Bad Girl Reputation," I know that this is actually a paid promotion, and it has nothing to do with my reading preferences, but I wish Goodreads would just upfront say "this is an ad" because it just makes their recommendation algorithm look even more incompetent than it actually is.

This is a great book, but I gotta say, it's hard not having any Perrin and company after all the great Two Rivers sections in Shadows Rising...

ok, I actually think I like Demir, so that's a step in the right direction: one protagonist to root for

only through the intro (which can be quite an undertaking in some of the Wheel of Time books), catching up with the villains

Is it bad that I think the story and characters are much less interesting now that they're outside of the Scholomance...

The story is interesting but every single character seems to be some variety or other of exploitive sociopathic narcissist (with the POSSIBLE exception of Demir); I miss Field Marshal Tamas, Inspector Adamat, and Ben Sykes, sigh...

ish... I've been averaging about 30-40 pages on my 15 minute breaks (no, seriously, it's got big type and wide spacing and the book is the smaller j fic hardback size (the size just larger than "library binding") but while I DO remember seeing page 200, I didn't bother to look what page I ended on when I had to drag myself away to get back to work

This book is weird. Not content-wise, but in that it's both a sequel AND a prequel to Sea and Shadow. I get that giving away all this background info would've spoiled some of the surprises in the previous book, but it still feels strange to be getting what amounts to character intros for the main cast in the second book.
