diving into a Thursday Next book is like turning on the television and finding that somehow A&E, the History Channel, SyFy, MTV, and the Soap Opera Network (back when those channels actually all fulfilled their brief) had all somehow merged and spontaneously generated programming which was a perfect composite of all their component concepts and made total sense while watching but afterwards couldn't be comprehended

still not really enjoying this one... too much Anna May, too much fish out of water awkwardness, not enough of Lana's friends and family that are actually likeable (practically none really), no Ohio. More than that, I'm not even invested in the mystery. At least I'm 2/3rds through

I'm not really tearing through this one, which is rather weird, but I think I've identified the problem: no Cleveland. I mean, don't get me wrong, the Mistake on the Lake isn't one of mankind's great achievements, but the fact that it was a different setting from the usual NY/BOS/CHI/LA/SF/MI/NO cycle plus all Lana's friends are there and that's the real problem, I miss the secondary characters

Having a kindle library is great, but the fact that Amazon doesn't let you pick which covers to use for the thumbnail is most annoying; for example, even though there's several sets of great cover art for the Wheel of Time books, Amazon insists on the covers which reference their so-called "adaptation," whose existence I deplore. Accursed cross-media promotions!

PROGRESS! HAHA! Just because I hadn't touched it in... 4 months, doesn't mean I'd given up on it. I was a bit burned out on big epic fantasy novels at the time after pushing to the end of Robert Jordan's portion of the Wheel of Time, but after reading a ton of mil sci-fi and mystery and thrillers (and yes, a fantasy here and there) through the spring and summer, I'm ready to give this another go. HUZZAH!
