Yikes, I'm kind of glad I didn't remember this book better than I did because I'm not sure I would've had the guts to reread it. Just twisting the knife over and over. Fortunately, I DO remember that there is a modicum of hopefulness at the end, so it's not ALL bad, and I've got Rhythm of War to look forward to.

Oh man, well, at least that's over, I mean, sure Kaladin's still got a book worth of funk before he starts getting it together again, but definitely past the ultimate low point.

And so we leave Pippin and Gandalf (and Shadowfax) to check in on Frodo and Sam

"Huorns will help" sounds like a great name for an orc-exterminator business

This is the first book in the series that I'm seriously considering giving 3/5 stars. My biggest problem is that I figured out the whole mystery just from the blurb. My second biggest problem is that Brother Urien is a total creep. My third biggest problem is that Cadfael hasn't done much of anything in terms of figuring things out. Maybe the last third of the book will right the ship.
