Chapter 2 Part III has been the most interesting to me so far but my eyebrows have been getting a workout being raised every two minutes lol

Hyped for my boy Usama, who inspired my thesis, and happy to read more Paul Cobb whose crusades work I have enjoyed previously as well

The unexpected problem of reading this as an audiobook is that my French knowledge (“knowledge”) is entirely reliant on the use of English cognates, which I am completely unable to catch verbally versus being able to interpret them pretty well in written form. So I’m barely getting any of the gist of a lot of these extended quotes :(

I initially wondered why my MENA minor textbooks frequently recommended this book but the profs didn’t actually assign it, and I think the answer is simply that this is beyond the undergrad level 💀 I’m gonna be so educated after this

Conquered the introduction

Help this book is really advanced… my philosophy background is super super basic and therefore I am clinging by my fingernails to not getting lost in the introduction 💀💀

I was braced for the fast and loose scientific accuracy but I’m still not over the obviously fictionalized account of deceased persons’ activities being presented as fact, when they were alone in the time frame recounted and were stated to have died without being interviewed

Help I’ve only just started but this book is aggressively on topic for my first degree studies, it’s almost funny how aggressively widely it relates so far to everything I studied

Dr. Google diagnoses mercury poisoning, which is not nearly as exciting of a reveal as I was hoping for

I guess it’s also a lesson on groupthink which is kind of interesting

Okay this is a spoiler so don’t read this if you want to read the book, but ever since I got traumatized by a certain movie, I DON’T do people dying via getting locked in, -1000/10 fuck this book actually. Wouldn’t have gotten it if I knew.
