“The different rooms that had their gatherings to welcome the day,” - probably were also, AA meetings at the same time as the churchie type prayers going on. Willie little child was not a slight man at one time. I went to the same university as he did. This book is so good. The structure & history connection + current events, the way this story is written is so circular over & over it’s a coil of stories.

The way the author has weaved her personal story into the overall narrative of this book exemplifies the connection to the colonial project that each and every Indigenous family has experienced in one way or another. It is a well researched historic account of an Indigenous narrative and how we are all connected. And not just Indigenous people, but all Canadians too.

So far I’m feeling some comfort in hearing Murray Sinclair as a narrator. I’m so glad he was able to do this and leave his voice with us in this way. Having his son read is an awareness of the next generation and a wonderful reassurance that we are in good hands as knowledge keepers pass down their knowledge to the next generation.

Extremely important read for anyone trying to understand gender, sex and identity. I’m currently at the part where the author is talking about Indigenous recognized two-spirit identity from around the world.
