Note on Métis mentioned in the book: Interesting perspective on the view and experience with a person who is Métis. The descriptions of “barely” Native I find are harmful to Métis have a strong separate culture from First Nations or in the USA, Native Americans (I think).

Anyway, it’s a perspective of Métis that is of one view and I hope readers understand that.

I’ve been in a reading rut. I’ve only been able to finish reading my son’s bedtime books. Wish me luck, I made a lofty goal for my reading challenge based on last year - but this is a different kind of year.

I really, really enjoyed this book. All the stories within the stories keep it interesting but the overall story is - holeh 👌🏽

This book makes me feel like I’m rolling around in sparkles and so many strands of ribbon and stardust too.

“Weak or lazy” as a description for symptoms becomes like a simple assumption about the ‘systems’ he calls 1&2. For example, the autonomic nervous system is his “system 1” that & the cognition system or the brain, is his “system 2” but he never uses terms about the nervous or cognitive aspects. The book needs to be anchored in better language & psycho educational ideas & consider nerve/brain issues.

So far, system 1 seems like the nervous system (though not credited) & system 2 is our cognitive system (also not credited).
After reading the last book “In an unspoken voice, Gabor Mate, I’m realizing that this book is really made for a narrow group of folks. I will see it through even if I’m not captivated so far.

Some crazy shit here. Recommending for social workers or psychologists. You can’t do your work if you haven’t read something like this.

Personally, OK, there are things here that I get. And moreso, loving my little toddler even more in a way that makes sure I’m fully following through with duress. Duress can be the com at mechanism to trauma.

Already, the author has pinned me in the first poem; the first line, “I am sitting in the dark. In the dark I am sitting. Without singing any sort of song….”
