I've been waiting for quite a while to read this one. It looks awesome. I really need a good sci-fi book right now - lately, it seems like all the books I read by authors I'm not familiar with come in varying degrees of awful.

This is really good. I wish I had the time to properly enjoy it.

Okay, I'll admit it, that was actually genuinely surprising. I guess I'm kind of warming up to this. I didn't want to like it, but... well, it's not actually that bad.

This is relying on a lot of really convenient coincidences. She just happens to have Tucker as her teacher and then ski with Christian? I don't buy it.

Some thoughts:
-The Invisibles? Really?
-This prose is kinda choppy and awkward.
-The flow of scenes is also pretty choppy.
-I like Clara's relationship with her mom.
-This all feels like set-up for something yet to come.
-Clara is a really well-rendered character.
-INFODUMPS!

Overall, it isn't a bad book so far, but I'm having trouble seeing why it's so well-received.

I have so much to read this week that I'm barely paying attention, just because I don't feel like I have time. Which is a shame, because this could be rather interesting. But I must be efficient!

And the plan went badly. Who could've seen it coming!?

This isn't enjoyable, exactly, but it's really good, nonetheless.

That was horrifying. *shudders*

I'm not sure why, but I've always really like court scenes. And this one is pretty well done.

This plan is remarkably stupid. What's Ben going to do when he has to give a presentation on a code that doesn't exist?

I like the way this conflict is portrayed. That just because The Answer is fighting evil, that doesn't mean she's good.

I'm kind of getting bored. That's basically my only thought, at the moment.

I keep on forgetting that this is by the same author as If I Lie. And that book was so much better that reading this one is a bit depressing.

This slang is kinda painful.

Mayor Prentiss is a much better villain than Aaron. Even if they're equally one-dimensional (and I'm not quite convinced Prentiss is), Prentiss is so much more clever and intelligent than Aaron was.

This is a little anvilicious. There's nothing inherently wrong with writing a theme-oriented book, but I feel like Paton only sees the characters as vehicles for that theme, which makes the book a bit dull.

This insta-love could be worse, but it's still pretty bad. Remy and Asher are aware that they barely know each other... yet Asher has still promised to protect Remy with his life. It's like they know they're strangers, but it's just not a factor.

I can't even muster up snark about this book. It's just so dull.

This book makes me feel jaded of everything else.

I wish Paton used less pronouns - I find myself forgetting who's who in scenes a lot.

You don't get to make fun of how inaccurate James Bond is and then have a class called 'Seducing the Enemy'. That should be a trope - Hypocrisy of God.

Also, this is really, really predictable.

Remy is appropriately creeped out to find that Asher can read her thoughts and he didn't tell her, which is nice. But I can still sense the cheesy forbidden romance to come.

And suddenly this has turned into a sitcom. Was it really necessary for Todd to see Viola hugging Mayor - I'm sorry, PRESIDENT - Prentiss out of context?

This is a lot like reading a textbook, in that I don't enjoy each individual passage, or even each individual chapter, but I walk away having seen value in the entire thing as a whole.

Dean is quite scary. And accurate - that helps, too. The sections involving Remy's family seem to be by far the more engaging parts of the novel.

Ben is a realistic character, I'll give Gibbs that. But man, this is cheesy, other than that.

Ness is the only person who is ever, ever allowed to change the font when different characters are narrating. It's lazy and pointless when most other authors do it, but with Ness, it's justified, because he uses it so differently.

I feel like I'm being kept at an arm's length from the story at times. But other than that, this is quite good. Very well-written.

It's quite clear that Asher is never actually going to hurt Remy, and that makes things a bit boring. Although the conflict over it might be interesting.
