Whenever I start thinking things are picking up and I'm enjoying it, there are these long stretches where everyone is stupid and annoying, and I find myself wishing a plot would actually come along and save the characters from themselves.

It's not a bad book. A bit slow to start, but things are sort of rolling along. It's not quite compelling, can't put down reading, or anything, but I'd give it 3.5 so far.
Still, wish I could get through more than 30 pgs at a time...
