Christopher Cagle is finished with Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance by Robert M. Pirsig (1975-01-01)
Bought this at a used bookstore a few months ago because it has “always been on my list.” A friend said “yeah that’s on so many bookshelves and probably never read.” No marginations or other marks, and the spine is lightly creased making it pop open near page 100 (beginning of chapter 9), so the previous owner tried but never finished. In spite of my friend’s comment, I endeavor to persevere🤓

Finished the “Nutritional Biochemistry” portion and I am relieved that there wasn’t much chemistry involved. I am not surprised that the author has come to the conclusion that “Nutritional biochemistry is an important component of our tactics, but is not the only path to longevity, or even the most powerful one.” And that “the best nutrition plan is the one we can sustain.”

Got through the exercise part and have lots to plan. If you want to go deeper check out the author’s podcast conversation with Dr. Andy Galpin. While you’re at it check in with Dr. Galpin at the Huberman Lab podcast too (4 part series). I’m now knee deep in the “nutritional biochemistry” chapters.🤓

I’m for some reason more attracted (akin?) to the “pre-beats”—Snyder and Ferlinghetti.

So far so good! I like how Attia and Gifford ask you to slow down and not jump straight to “tactics;” as “strategy” comes first and informs all tactics. I realized at the end of chapter four that this was a good example of correctly using the “three act structure” and the monomyth in non-fiction. (I should have seen it in the contents pages, but I skipped those initially in my excitement and haste.)

I’ve been dying to read this book! (I’m sure there’s a joke in there somewhere.) I have been following Dr. Attia for sometime now—at his podcast and on others. Always informative and able to explain deep medical science in a way a dunce like me can understand and actualize.

Re-reading/skimming — another pre-trip refresher. Wow! I highlighted like crazy the first time I read this!
