Supposedly, the only difference between this Harry Potter universe and J.K. Rowling's is the identity of Harry's uncle/stepfather. Certainly, that had a profound effect on Harry's character, which has changed his interactions with people and his goals and motivations at Hogwarts, and most peripheral differences can be attributed to that. However, something's just been revealed that I'm having trouble reconciling.

"Harry didn't believe in angst, he couldn't stand reading about whiny heroes..." Clearly he's not read book 5.
