My copy is a galley and the pages come out in my hand as I turn them.

Uncanny similarities between this book and Wind-Up Bird Chronicle: in both books a) a cat runs away, b) a woman likes looking at jellyfish, c) unspeakable acts of torture and murder are described (in both books by and against the same groups), and d) a single bird has a profound effect on people's lives.

"Basically, when a cat offers you his butt to scratch you have to do it and not mind the rest of the package."

Second book in a row in which a Japanese woman enjoys staring at jellyfish.

I find it too unromantic when a novel mentions mobile devices by brand.

There are a few graphically violent moments in this book, and I think the one I just read is the worst so far.

Thank goodness for long subway rides or I would have given up on this book weeks ago. (Really liking it by the way, it's just slow in parts, like the D train.)

This book would be far less than 600 pages if Creta Kano would stop repeating herself.

I'll call this the boring part.

Half-way through a 40-page Japanese military history lesson.

It is easier to mentally sort my friends into factions than Hogwarts houses.

"Four steps away from the fence," doesn't seem like a complete sentence until you remember that "Four" is a character's name.

Have we covered the fact that two of the factions are adjectives while the rest are nouns?

I'm wondering about his current relationships with the people he describes unkindly or indelicately exposes in this book.

Nothing new to say except that this is still fascinating.

Fascinating memoir of a man as he begins to piece together his memory after suffering amnesia.
