Edward
Edward is on page 60 of 276 of The Shadow of the Torturer
Second time through for me. One of the most exhilarating adventures I’ve ever read, and it’s way better this time around.

I’m reading the magnificent introduction today. If you have any moralizers in your life who berate you with guilt and boasting about their own performance you’ll be deeply comforted by Ryle

Is the girl in this story mysterious or just stupid? The answer may not surprise you.

I read about half of this today and I gotta admit I’ve never read anything like it before. There’s a fistfight in the middle of the book that I enjoyed reading a couple times through. Many insanely funny things happen to the narrator, and all of them make sense. Maybe the funniest thing is how Jake (a detective) describes makeup. After making out with a client at a nightclub, his face gets smeared with lipstick

Not sure I can continue with this. It’s pretty boring so far, despite mountains of hype I’ve heard from its fanboys.

Edward is starting A Severe Mercy: A Story of Faith, Tragedy, and Triumph
This is scheduled reading for a group of mine. Don’t know much about it except that the author knew CS Lewis. Hopefully not some fan boy stuff which, while always tedious, can be inordinately so when Lewis is its object. I love him as much as the next man but it’s a bit thin as the subject of a book.

Edward is starting Anna Karenina [annotated]
I’m assuming that this is what Henry James was trying to do in his own novels but could not manage. Interior monologues so interesting that you just nod along thinking, yep that’s exactly what it’s like.
