I love long series but have discovered a pet peeve. I really don't like meetings. It isn't this book specifically and I realize it is natural to have councils at this point in a war but that doesn't mean I have to like it. It is a strictly "me" thing.

I saw many reviews that this book was confusing. The fuck were you expecting?! The cover quote is NK JEMISON saying it's "complex".
It's fantasy. Just read til it clicks. Pay a lil attention.

I'm not too far in but I think Kai is going to be a character close to my heart. I am also an absolute sucker for a " solve your own murder" story.

Put this on currently reading just to complain about it. They sure are rubbing up on each other a lot for this to be described as "slow burn". Its halfway through book 1 of a 5 book series, for Pete's sake! Also please tell me they get out of the woods soon. I am exhausted.
