This is a "shout it from the rooftops" kind of book- insanely relevant and important!

I keep thinking that I know where the story is going... and, joyously, being utterly surprised!

Picking this back up for the 2025 Trans Rights Readathon, starting March 21st.

The sheer number of perspectives here blows my mind. I think it is misunderstood as a story about a Norwegian missionary who tried to Christianize China! This is a Sami guy, thoroughly discriminated against for being proudly Native, against all odds educated as both a theologian and a doctor, speaking out against colonialism at every turn! Born 1870! He was radical! I love the intersectionality here.

Motivated to clear my stack of "Currently reading" before the Trans Rights Readathon starts March 21st.

I sort of jumped right in after finishing Survivor. This is (as expected) much more well-written, but I curse my past self for having read the Parable books before the Patternist books - the first year I read here, was 2021. Parable of the Sower started in 2024. So now, I inevitably compare "where" in the storyline I am in Clay's Ark as compared to the Parable books...

Not my genre, and the English teacher in me wonders who the beta readers were, as some snafus have snuck past the proofreading. But I am already 25% in, so the story has caught a hold of me despite any initial caution on my part!
