Repeated visits to the various kiosks scattered throughout the complex eventually got her to an exit door. A bored guard nodded to her as she passed by, and then she was outside. Outside. Without a suit. Five seconds later she was clawing at the door...trying to get back in. The guard took pity on her and pushed the door open. She ran back inside and collapsed on a nearby setee, gasping and hyperventilating.

Why are these characters all so good? And sentences like these make me want to watch Gundam. "A young woman with red-rimmed eyes smoked a marijuana cigarette, the smell of burning leaves over the stink of close-packed bodies, the smoke curling up past the NO SMOKING sign on the wall. No one protested. All of them had the haunted look of refugees, even the ones who'd been born here."

Congratulations James S. A. Corey, you have successfully brought the power suit from Starship Troopers into the 21st century and I am loving every second of that amazing hardware.

So I was wrong about when the prologue happens, but I'm totally down with super freaky ground combat with echoes of Starship Troopers.

...I can only pause for a moment to explain that the principle of democracy, as I mean it, can be stated in two propositions. The first is this: that the things common to all men are more important than the things peculiar to any men. Ordinary things are more valuable than extraordinary things... the second principle is merely this: that the political instinct or desire is one of the things which they hold in common.

It is idle to talk always of the alternative of reason and faith. Reason is itself a matter of faith. It is an act of faith to assert that our thoughts have any relation to reality at all.

I am unable to include Chesterton quotes on the GR update because the quotes are long and the space is small.

Herlock Sholmès arrive trop tard: Yes it's Sherlock Holmes, there's a story. And this one was brilliant.

La perle noir: You could also call this one 'To Catch a Thief...' and it really shows of the "Gentleman" part of Lupin's title.

It's not every day you read a book with 40 pages of epilogue, but since I've read easily 4000 pages what's 40 more?

You know Goodreads, when you update the app you're supposed to make it work better, not stupider. Although making something that stupid stupider is quite the feat and I am impressed.

And I thought he was meta in Song of Susannah. When you describe yourself getting hit by a van you've broken all the records.

Ok, there's an opera adaptation of Dolores Clairborne, Der Ring des Nibelungen needs to move over to make way for a Dark Tower cycle, because these deaths are much more cataclysmic than Brunhilde throwing herself onto the pyre to bring about Ragnarok.

I mean, that wasn't really a surprise because it's been foreshadowed for the entire novel so far, but holy cow was it dramatic!
