Could this be my new favourite novel?

It's the first time I'm reading Ken Follett. This novel is enjoyable in some parts but relatively weak in others. I like Lord Walden's chapters but don't seem interested in the other characters. I understand Charlotte is naive about society, but I feel there is no driving force to make me like her. Though I admire her views, they are not enough for me. The book is also dull, and I hope it picks up soon.

To cast the first stone is a very powerful proverb. While accurate that the rich can provide aid to the poor people, should it just be the rich that do so? And why should the rich be treated with such intensity when they choose not to help the poor when governments and others can do it themselves? Should one dutifully give out their wealth to the poor?

Feliks is not as interesting as I'd hoped he would be. He's not as fresh as Stephen Walden, Aleks, and Charlotte
