Guards grabbed Kaika which caused her to drop the bomb then a lantern ignited it while Cas and Sardelle were fighting. The explosion caused a massive rock collapse. The queen is dead. Cas killed Apex with sword when he tried to stop her. Jaxie burned away part of stone to rescue Kaika. Sword is buried and the 3 women make their escape.

Ridge is arrested then they try to get Sardelles information from him. He draws map to determine what lighthouses would make good prisons. Col helps Ridge escape and tells him to find king or don't come back. Kaika wants to confront queen after breaking out of dungeon. Queen recognizes sword's presence then shouts command and Cas begins attacking Sardelle with sword seemingly against her will.

Ridge reports to the other Col with Sardelle and discover he doesn't know about the Cohfa's weapons, nothing has been done with dragon blood, he owns the sword and pulled it out of family archives for queen to us. Queen tried to get Col to kidnap king, but he refused. Queen paid assassin for something, not sure if it's to kill dragon or kidnap king or both. There is lighthouse clue about kings whereabouts.

Kaika is shot in shoulder and captured at castle. A tracking device was placed in their fliers and these ladies shot Duck and destroyed fliers. Apex placed it there at the command of the queen before the king disappeared. The general seems to have been kidnapped and numerous officers are missing. Cas is being influenced by the Castlyn, the swords.

Group tries to covertly gather information trying to find out about the king and not reporting for duty. Kaika wants to break into the caste to interrogate the queen. Sardelle and Cas go with her. Queen was not in castle, but they discovered she has dragon blood and is the head of an anti-witch group. She has had flier pilots sent out to kill those descended from Reffarto.

News of dragon, squadron, and Sardelle is all over the capital. King is missing, Queen supposedly in charge, but seen by none outside Castle. The Col Ridge dumped is now in charge of the flying squadron and the General previously in charge has been relived of command.

Ridge shot Cas's father and he ran off. Cas grabbed the soul blade. Dragon got out of pile with help from Sardelle and Jaxie. New blade is ancient relic of their homeland. Dragon healed entire group then Tylie flew off with him. She will do training another time.

Cas thwarts soldiers from blowing ceiling of the lab while Jaxie tries to use radiation to cure dragon of its illness, which is what has been infecting others. Dragon is close to death. He is young and was placed in Stasis 3000 years ago due to his illness. Then Cas's father brings the whole top of the pyramid down on all of them and has a soul blade that he has borrowed from his employer to kill the dragon.

Crew choses to burn a hole in a upper level of the pyramid instead of getting involved in the firefight between pirates and soldiers at the only entrance. They then climb on a rope down and swing into one of holes in sides of walls below since barrier keeps them out. Dragon wakes and shouts "INTRUDERS!" into everyone's mind

Soldiers on guard inside have their necks slashed making it easier for Tolemech to get inside where he found a silver dragon unconscious. His sister was being forced to draw vials of the dragon's blood. She is determined to save the dragon. Tole is seen by a guard and there is a magical incinerating barrier above the dragon. Tylie is linked to the dragon.

They ultimately reach a pyramid in a crater that contains the dragon. Cas is warned off by her father, a famous assassin. She doesn't know who he is trying to kill. The dragon has only communicated by sending images of death to Jaxie. Tylie, Tolemech's sister, speaks to him again saying the dragon is dying and he goes off to try to rescue her without the others.

As they progress through the jungle, Cas keeps feeling like people are following her. In addition, dead people and animals abound , seemingly killed by some kind of contagion that they don't know how it is spreading and they may have been exposed.

Mostly told from Cas's point of view. They found island where dragon is and brought Ridge's father along since the locals had turned against them where he had been. No indication that Tolemech's sister is there. Were attacked by a dragon blood charged octopus in the river. Starting looking at a village that seems to have been killed off.

Mission to bring back dragon blood samples and find out about their new technology. New Col was displaced by Ridge to make room for Sardelle who proved invaluable. They faced menacing automatons trying to kill them, being powered and programmed with dragon blood. Collapsed mountain while escaping and triggered a volcano.

They escaped in hot air balloons while being fired on from airships. Sardelle fainted from exhaustion and Jaxie was little better. Sent most of blood back with Apex and Kaika, The rest are flying to where Ridge's father is to try to identify the flowers and find the dragon and Tolemech's sister. When mountain imploded it trigger the volcano to start erupting.

They have the blood and are trying to inflate the escape balloons before Kaika and Apex return from setting the timers on explosives. There are at least 4 enemy airships on the way. Dragon blood has been powering all kinds of scary tech. The fauna leaves used for packing materials appears the same as where they took Tolemeck's sister. No new romance in this book.

Finished book 2. Sardelle is helping and has agreed to try to get Tolemek's sister out of the asylum and train her and him to use their magic.

This was a slow build romance over several intense days. I liked the characters and Tolemek was shown to be misunderstood and had been used by the pirate captain. In the end, he was wanted for his chemical engineering prowess and gets to stay working for government on a sudo-parole. Sardelle appears creating communication devices disguised as artifacts, healing, and agrees to teach him and sister.

She is prisoner from dog fight over water and captured after her plane sank. She is paired with an enemy fighter who has a horrendous reputation and is a pirate. He has scientific toys that he uses to escape. She then steals some and uses them to escape him and the pirate ship in port. Now everyone is hunting her. There was a flier at the base, but squadron showed up and destroyed it.

She found Ridge at his cottage on the lake that he had given his address to in the box with the sword when she retreived it.

So she flew away after killing the enemy mage.

She's a mage. He's a pilot. They click instantly, but the humans are extremely paranoid about magic.

It seems that she was moving in on a Thursday when the blizzard hit.

She was forced to stay with him through the weekend due to the blizzard. By Monday morning, he knew about her plans and was helping her any way he could because he just wanted to convince her to stay with him.

I really hate all the cussing in contemporary romance.

They have their night and he cancels appt to see house when he realizes it is her. 8 days later she shows up for rental at beginning of blizzard and locks herself out of car while waiting for keys to house. Sterling shows up and she has hypothermia and is delirious. He takes her to his apt. She's upset when she wakes.

They are trying to escape the temple after Billie has grabbed the stone tablet.

They start to get to know one another and Trevor takes all the inconsistent information and paints it into a view that is not J'non's background but built on more half-truths.

So, they now know who the big Russian kingpin is in the new order and call the organization "The Colony". His assassin is still alive and rescued from the cave in a submarine?
