Kind of jarring to reference Mary Shelley's story as an inspiration and then create a world where Frankenstein apparently never existed. Nor did Shirley Jackson. Or any female horror author of note until the '70s?? Just to make this fictional author all the more groundbreaking.

End is very 'oh poor Jim' for a book that started out talking about how he was defrauding old women and trafficking teenage boys to his rich friends.
