Increasingly I feel like this is a book that wants to be Deep and Smart about Video Games as Art and somehow reads like it wasn't written by someone who actually plays them.

The worst form of plot twist is when you just withhold information from the reader. There is no reason that we have been in Sadie's pov for years without this ever coming up except shock value. It's not like we're finding this out with the character, and unreliable narrators don't really work well in third person? If that's even what this is supposed to be.
