Status Updates From A Virtude do Egoísmo

There are a lot of ideas in Randy’s initial essay that seems intriguing. My biggest hang up though is how she explains trade between two independent equals as the only rational ethical principle for all relationships, but then pairs this with free market, laissez faire capitalism. Either she is an idealist, or contradicts her own philosophy. I’d need to know more about her politics.

“If some men do not choose to think, but survive by imitating and repeating, like trained animals…it still remains true that their survival is made possible only by those who did choose to think and discover the motions they are repeating….They are the men march into the abyss, trailing after any destroyer who promises them to assure the possibility they evade: the responsibility of being conscious.”

Objectivism is quite interesting. It moves to justify the ethical and moral reasoning behind stark individualism and free market capitalism. I’m excited to dive deeper into the strange mind of Ayn Rand to see just how denounces altruistic collectivism—something that has always seemed morally correct to me. Time to read Karl Marx after this!
