This author is trying so hard that it is hurting me. Intellectually, this book hurts me. Physically, this book brings me great pain.
This author tries so hard to depict Canadians as being entirely different than the British, but fails to understand that Canadians spoke like normal people, and didn't sound like some low class citizens from some borough in London.

The writing is incredibly annoying, especially in terms of the dialogue. There seems to be two groups of people in this book. The uneducated rednecks that swear they were born in Canada and can't talk the way that Canadians actually talk or the educated British character that actually talks well without sounding at all uneducated.

I heard of this series. I am so excited to read another book that is set in Canada and is especially set in Canada's history. If we are to think about Murdoch, but set in an earlier time (1830s), I think it is this book in a nutshell. I can't wait to read this book!

I like it but...I can't decide if it's written for adult audiences or teen...maybe it's for college/university kids. Would make sense since Gutteridge is a university professor...but still I struggle between the two audience targets.
