The subtlety of chapter XVII is so well done. The interview between Bazarov and Anna Sergyevna in her room is so layered, perfectly stylized, intense, and lovely and well done! It reminds me of the scene in middlemarch where Reverend Farebrother implies Mary Garth should wait for Fred Vincy rather than choose him.
