I find myself compelled to read this. I don’t like the dry writing but I decided to skim through that part and just read that yarn and knitting parts. It’s not earth shaking, but it’s interesting.

The writing is so dry, and I wonder if that is the essence of a memoir? The story is not compelling, but I’m interested in how the author uses yarn and knitting as metaphor. It’s also such a contrast to the young, upbeat, voice of Judy in daddy long legs.

Soft and powerful is this author’s life and words . A great book for those dealing with the loss of someone to suicide and equally to those who love knitting . A book i could really relate to in her battles to feel at home in a state don contrary to personality . The balance of a childless woman in searching for female friends. Her graceful
honesty holds so much power over the reader.

“I wanted to write the way l’d been knitting, by trial and error, aiming for endurance. Some projects would turn out better than others, but each would teach me what I didn’t know before and prepare me for the next. That’s how my life was going to be different than my mother’s, how I meant to redeem my father’s selfishness into a strength. “
