Forgotten how brilliant this is

wow. this book is so unique! its written in the form of an actual dictionary but instead of definition straight from the real one its what that word means to the narrator-who we don't even know his name. and I know so few of these words its crazy but its like through the narrator I just... understand it completely. I like it so far.

Living this book so far <3

This is such an interesting book; it's more of a relationsip/character study than chronological tracking of events, and it's therefore beautifully written without a load of exposition weighing it down. I might have to buy a second copy to highlight all my favourite passages.

When I was in third grade, we would play that game at recess where you’d twist an apple while holding on to its stem, reciting the alphabet, one letter for each turn. When the stem broke, the name of your true love would be revealed.

I will admit: When I got home that night, I went to the refrigerator and took out another apple. But I stopped twisting at J and put the apple back.

I'm really enjoying this book, tbh. Hahaha. It's like. Every other entry is being highlighted.
