"Self-pity is an attempt to manipulate others into taking responsibility for our heart's response and neediness. It’s an attempt to be valued, but with others doing all the work. Because we have been taught to mistake sadness for self-pity, we often dismiss our need to feel sadness as something to be hidden or denied an attempt to block the appearance of self-pity."

Sadness is proportional - the more sadness you feel after a loss, the more you value what is lost. The more you live an open hearted life of fullness, the more you lose. Sadness gives us the gift of valuing and honoring life.

The loneliness arouses an emotional and spiritual hunger to be received, known, and loved by another. It is a hunger to be accepted as we are. If we are accepted and enjoyed for who we truly are, then we cannot help but find replenishment. we will likewise be filled emotionally and spiritually. We will be compelled to share our passion for life and do good things through relationships with others.

"It is my responsibility to deal truthfully with hurt. No amount of pretending, denying, or lying will change the truth. Hurt moves the heart towards healing. Vulnerability to hurt initiates a balm for your pain. You step into the hope that God can do for you what you cannot do."

"Self-esteem is something we manufacture in order to create a sense of control or power. it offers a false sense of worth based not on our inborn gifts, but on our achievements only: "I did; therefore I am." This is the opposite of God and what God made us to be: "I am; therefore I do."

Through life's woundings, we have either deepened our ability to use our emotional and spiritual roots, or we have attended to squash our capacity to live fully from our hearts. In an attempt to prevent new wounds, we learn to defend with survival methods. while these methods work, they also block Old Wounds from healing.
