^The only way I’d ever rid myself of her[old Skylar] was to come clean. To open myself up and become so authentic, so light inside, that she had no dark refuge in which to hide.
And to do that, I had to go back.^

^”We’re not friends, Skylar. I don’t believe in being friends with girls.”^
Wow Justin. You really think that you can only have a girlfriend and not lady friends? You have much to learn of life.

^”You need to follow the path the Lord set out for you and you alone.”
“But I don’t know what that is,” I said. “I don’t know what he wants.”
Papa frowned. “Which will take more courage? More trust? Which will grow your character? Because your character is his primary concern.”^

^I asked, taking a big bite of my heavenly hana ice cream—chocolate ice cream with marshmallows, white-chocolate-covered macadamia nuts, and dark-chocolate-covered almonds.^
Hana ice cream is a Hawaiian speciality. It’s made of coconut instead of cow’s milk. Just like gelato, I want to try this!

^”My mom always explained it to me like a cell phone. You can only ignore it for so long before it needs to be plugged in. Otherwise the calls might not come through. Sure, he’s God and doesn’t need a charged battery or a signal or whatever analogy you want to use. And he might use a miracle sometimes to place a call, but it’d be a lot easier if you’d plug in your phone.”^
Good example!

^”Your relationship with God. Maybe you’re having problems because you’re not really doing what he’s asking.”
“But he’s not asking me to do anything.”
“Or maybe you’re not listening.”
I thought of that party nearly a year ago, when God so clearly called me back to him. “ He’s God. When God talks, I don’t think you have a choice about whether or not to listen.”^
