He then went to meet Rosamund, who seemed to have had a party; she talked of a play and being in it with her husband;

Ch. 14: and kept thinking of things and wondering. And they saw no motive for the killing, that according to Enwhistle, no one gained anything from her death, not even the other 5 who would have a few thousands more of the capital after her death. I don't think so, but if that wasn't the motive, it might be that the killer was the same as Richard's that she was killed because of what she said at the funeral.

Ch. 14: "she had also the child's uncanny knack of somethimes hitting the nail on the head in a way that seemed quite startling" and that she had read between the lines of what Richard had said.
