Seriously good, although i’m struggling with the character names, not very defining people but amazing.

By no means a shiny, warming depiction, but Edward Chisholm has a magnificent way with words.

Picked this back up where I left off while I was in Paris (a little too close to home to read about grotty restaurants and dodgy streets that I visited myself!). Amazing how suddenly, instead of repulsing me a bit, it conjures up a sort of longing, even in the less-than-shining depictions, I still see the city I fell in love with. Not perfect, but perfectly imperfect.

Wasn’t that impressed with this at first but it has turned to be quite entertaining. One passage made me laugh out loud this morning- a rare and exciting event

“Because you're in it, you're in the film. You're not watching, you've got a walk-on, speaking part. And everything feels possible. Besides, when you’re in Paris you couldn't care less about anywhere else. Your world shrinks; it's the centre of the universe. There is nowhere else.”

I loved this book as someone who’s lived in France and worked in a restaurant- just not at the same time. It read like I was watching a movie.

It’s no down and put in Paris and London but it is amazing that 100 years on from Orwell he’s essentially living the same life.

so far it’s only confirmed my impression of Paris as a grimy city and put me off eating out anywhere in that city where you can’t see the kitchen.

I won’t lie. It’s hard to go from Maxton Hall to a struggling lit student waiter. But I’m making it work.

What’s this?! A return to non-fiction?!?! After all the romantasy, dark academia and eventually saucy period dramas the time has come to once more broaden my horizons and vocabulary.
Also I’m watching trash TV so really there should be a balance somewhere.
