Very thorough examination of modern American cartoon strip history in two parts. I agree with some critics that it's a shame this massive volume wasn't updated and stitched together from the two separate books that effectively comprise it—it's more like a reprint of both. But the contents are quite fantastic: a thorough accounting of cartoonists, their influences, and their downstream effects.
