This takes a sudden turn that I wasn’t expecting, but I guess it makes sense to have a full novel around this (and a sequel). Enjoying it so far.

Bought this during a recent sale and it’s fun so far. Not much has gone down yet, but I like what I’m reading (or listening to on the audiobook via audible).

The bar she had in mind was only another couple miles away. At the next intersection, she took a left turn and after getting up to around the posted speed limit, she glanced at the rearview mirror. And then she screamed. The man with the melting face was in the backseat, staring back at her in the mirror.

Cassie put the tape in the machine, sat on her sofa, and used a remote to start the tape. She sat there and barely moved as she watched the movie that shouldn’t exist all the way to the end. When it was over, she hit the rewind button. She stared at the empty black screen for a moment. Then, sighing, she pushed play and the movie began again.

Though she’d calmed down some since Saturday, she was still a bit on edge. That guy was out there somewhere, maybe actively trying to track her down. She still wasn’t sure how serious a threat he might be, but pretending the possibility of being stalked didn’t exist would be foolish. Then there was the matter of her dreams about the mysterious figure. The man with the melting face.

Allison looked up from her phone after sending another fast text with the room number. “What’s your real name, fucker?” He gave her a faux-innocent look. “I already told you. Steve Miner.” She shook her head. “We both know that’s a lie. You didn’t direct the first two Friday the 13th sequels.” The guy’s look of fake innocence gave way to a more openly mischievous expression. “Sorry. I was testing you.”
