It's become very ironic. I'm having a bit of a hard time determining which parts are entirely satire, but the main character is such a product of his time - a veritable savage by today's standards. Meanwhile, he passes judgements on other "savages". It's amazing actually, to see how the ways in which we would revise the past are only a different form of corruption. "Let history be" - I guess that's the lesson, haha.

It's a good balance, maybe, after T. H. White's "The Once and Future King" to read something that's a bit more comedic/satire and critical of Arthur's court. Perhaps the main character comes around a bit by the end, which the beginning's sentimentality might suggest, but right now there seems to be virtually zero respect for the age, the people, or the institutions, haha... I have a feeling I'm in for a deep irony.
