“One of the major achievements of emotional maturity is learning how to be at peace with being misunderstood”
I’ve personally always struggled with feeling misunderstood. This quote totally put this point into perspective for me like a much needed slap in the face!
Loving this book! This is the first book I’ve ever scribbled notes in. I’ll definitely be making a habit of this with non-fiction books.

Still have some extreme concerns and there are many well thought out reviews that outline exactly what is giving me a sense of unease about this while also trying to fully commit and go all in on this school of thought. Angst. Struggs. Gah. Onward lol.

Was initially very interested then after reading some reviews almost skipped this entirely but HOLY F*CK is this incredible. Exactly what I don't particularly want to hear and have major resistance to but need to hear haha. God I hope there is truth to this and it isn't just pop psychology. Furiously scribbling notes and I'm only like an hour and a half in. 100% going to have to order the paper copy.

Very interesting, as it invites you to look back at your life experiences and recognize their effect on your present, as well as being consciously aware of your thoughts

The book has been great so far, however the recent chapter regarding health and health habits that can reduce mental illness signs was a bit……. How do I say toxic in some parts. I believe the parts on movement like working out, and sleep habits, and breath work were all very well stated and executed. However when it came to eating I felt it fell into toxic diet culture instead of helpful advice.

Currently on the chapter about “egos” and the expansion/detail/research on the topic really has enhanced my knowledge of “ego driven” interactions that most people are not aware of but, have been conditioned to replicate since birth.

The author is taking trauma all the way back to your childhood, not necessarily blaming the parent but more “acknowledgement” of parent projecting their trauma onto us & how we TURN this narrative around for ourselves, our children, and our personal relationships. This is a must for your home library!!!

Great so far! Really touches on trauma and healing from birth-now; even touches on trauma in parenting, that could have rubbed off on you! So excited to see what’s next

Read more while at the hair salon. I relate a lot to the information provided. I like the readability of the big concepts around trauma and how it lives in the body and impacts our behavior. It’s good to reflect upon my own freezing.

In my childhood home, for example, stress and fear ruled. Those feelings bound us together and provided a stand-in for emotional intimacy, which was largely absent. Instead of connecting authentically, we connected over drama and pain, frantically coming together over each new crisis (Mom’s health! A rude neighbor!). The “downtimes,” when we didn’t experience these feelings felt dull in comparison…

I wish there was more space to write the journal prompts in the book. My companion journal doesn’t have the same prompts and it’s a little annoying
