Status Updates From Come In Alone

At this point I actually find the parts on Ellis' own creative process, perhaps because I've been reading a lot of his comics in different genres and series, more interesting than the polemics against the state of the comics industry. Maybe that's because like I say his complaints about the US/UK comics world don't always apply to Continental Europe...

Interesting to see how he looks for inspiration for the visuals and narrative structuring of comic books outside the medium, I think at some point he characterizes "cinematic" vs. "TV" orientations of doing comic books. It's also interesting to read this after "Transmetropolitan Vol. 1" because you can see traces of the philosophy outlined here in his writing style there.

Some of Ellis' complaints about the state of the comics industry I recognize, others I don't at all... maybe it's how much things have changed in the last 15 years but I wager there's also the difference between how the Continental European and UK/US comics industries work. I actually think he touches on that in one chapter.
