bottom of the shelves. love too many of the books and
take none of them home. your lines don’t usually fill up

always have the right words and seldom has them in
the right order. your commas pretend to be periods
and your metaphors sometimes spill over the edges of
convention

they taught her that
hell existed at the curve
of her waist.

i’m trying to come home to myself
i really am
but you underestimate the wayeyes
can knock on doors and break through
windows and tear down foundations
how eyes can whisper and laugh
and scream
you underestimate the way hate
can pull me to tears and push me to leave
once again.

so roop stares into the bathroom mirror and
prepares her face for a fistfight. the foundation
is two shades too light

Help I’m on a poetry kick and can’t stop

So far the section lung is very powerful. Tackling discussions such as depression and the feelings of someone inside. A section that truly speaks to the soul.

So far I’ve gotten through the section skin and muscle. She talks about topics such as abuse and being silence and how we need to scream for future generations to be alright. Some of my favorite pages are 5,7,20,27,36,65,66,69, and 71. Within these pages Jasmine Kaur talks about the injustice actions toward people of color and women and how people are molded from the abuse of other people.

The book is really good so far. I’ve been analyzing it and going through the conceptual meanings of the book and I definitely think that this will become one of my favorites. She talks about things that many people aren’t willing nor ready to start a conversation about.

This is really good and I'm loving it so much!

if you treat yourself like a poem
that needs to be read aloud
that requires hours of analysis
that contains a background story
behind each metaphor
and context beneath each word
how is it that you can dismiss others
as one-dimensional characters
static and stock
from the beginning to the end
of the story you have written
about them?

I can already tell this is going to be incredible.

I wish I had read Jasmin Kaur’s book before Rupo Kaur’s poetry. I think Jasmin has a lot more rage and it is pushing her edges to greater depths.

don't think this my style of poetry but I really like the design and illustrations

colored in different shades of compromise.”

This is taking a long time because I have to stop and think after each poem

uninspired & oversimplified. did this because of tupac. because of rupi. because of elizabeth. does jasmin have her own voice, or just parrot & ape other more truthful original voices? really more artful in its recycling than actual art on its own. kaur knows how to turn a phrase here & there, but not what to do with it after that. & the SJW asides she does on the audiobook are wholly unnecessary & one-sided.
