On to the re-read of book 2! Remembering all over again how amazing these books are.

It took an age but its done. I thought it was good. Not a 5 star read but good. Valyn really brought the book down in my opinion. While his drive to avenge his father is realistic, I just can’t get behind him. Adare and Kaden had interesting POVs certainly and kept the plot moving along. It’ll be interesting to see how Adare reacts to her brother making a republic of their empire. Guess we’ll find out.

Valyn is really a giant moron. Il Tornja will get his due, even Adare agrees on that point but you’re still adamant on killing him before the time comes. You deserve whatever comes to you, ya prick. God reading his POV is the worst.

Il Tornja definitely has something planned. What it is, I know not but I guess we’ll find out soon enough. Probably some plot to make humans Csestriim again.

Wow, Il Tornja’s a Csestriim, I’m so shocked. Not really. Though I’m curious how he’ll accomplish his goal of wiping humanity out. Not like there are too many of his own kind left.

Even I can admit when I’m wrong. This book is good. It’s everything I was kind of hoping for. It’s rather grimdark as well. There are no ‘good guys’ just people who want things. Il Tornja, Long Fist, even Kaden, they all want something different. I’m interested in what drives Long Fist though.

Okay even I can admit this is getting good. My apathy for the previous book tarnished this one, but I can see already its improving. The first book was not bad by any means, just slow and often meandered. This one is much more fast paced now that the players are known and set on their paths.

God almighty this is slow. That or my interest is waining. One or the other. Honestly, I want to see the leach-lords and their war, fuck the Annurian Empire and the Csestriim plot, give me that balls to the wall action.

I haven't finished reading for the day but I want to make an update at the 50% mark. Firstly I am loving this. Right when you think things are calming down Staveley always throws something super unexpected your way. And usually it's really dark. I think he doesn't know how to write a captivating beginning because this and book one took me a few hours to get into, but where I stand this is easily a 5 star

It’s picking up at least. It seems to have similar problems as its predecessor. Slow is fine, but not a lot is happening plot wise. Kaden is stuck with the Ishien, Adare is playing pretend, and the only interesting plotline is Valyn trying to escape the Flea.
