After a military inspection I managed to get a permit for a trip to England wherein I decided not to get back to Portugal.

Despite the impact of the American culture in my training and the ' pressure' of my American "family" , I didn't stay in the USA because I refused to do military service, thus I was forced into an "internship" in the Vietnam war.

When Humberto Delgado visited Covilhã on electoral campaign, I was just 14 years old. Three years later, following the footsteps of my older brother, I got a scholarship from the American Field Service to study and live with an American family in the little town of Cedar Rapids, in the American Midwest.

Years of Innocence (1944-1974)


I was 23 years old when I had my first contact with "Acção Socialista Portuguesa", established three years ago in Switzerland, by Francisco Ramos da Costa, Manuel Tito de Morais and Mario Soares. (...) My father was a devout Catholic, and in his youth, he had been a member of the Portuguese Legion.

In April 1974, the European social democracy entered its apogee phase. The political parties integrating the Socialist International, one to which the Portuguese Socialist Party also belongs to, were part of governments in the Federal Republic of Germany, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Great-Britain, Holland, Israel, Luxembourg, Norway and Sweden.

I entered politics almost by chance. I had joined in the 1960s the minuscule " Acção Socialista Portuguesa" because I believed that, through democratic socialism, and trough a multiparty system, Portugal would become like or better than the nation- Sweden-I lived exiled into, which was back then the most evolved and fairest nation on the planet.

I never wrote a book, yet I gave the opportunity in 1990 to a Lisbon weekly newspaper, which promised to unravel the mysteries of the... influences-trafficking. (...) It was about the "Macao fax" (case) and the blindness of how the process, at all levels, was conducted. Today, to bring the truth back I've decided to write the book.

Like what happens in Italy,(...) it's legitimate to ask if the "judges goverment", which has been devastating to that nation, isn't being used for political purposes in Portugal as well, (...)
