😪😭😖😵 Whyyyy...... This book had so much promise but was a huge let down.

My mistake - I misunderstood. Seelie is Spring & Summer, Unseelie Fall & Winter. That makes better sense. What still does not make sense is why Imogen jumped to "Unseelie = not good inherently". If she'd been born March 19th, she'd be Unseelie, so would she auto-assume she's no longer a good person?

Another assumption - all she knows about the "Seelie" and "Unseelie" Courts are that your birth determines whether you are Seelie (Spring cut off) or Unseelie (Summer??). Which in and of itself is ridick but why assume Unseelie is "not good"? Has anyone said "Unseelie folk are just bad news"?

There is nothing "light" about this pixie's Scottish accent. When more than half the words in a single sentence are in phonetic spelling to indicate the "accent" that's not light. When the main character who said it's a "light accent" can't understand the words, that's not light.

I do like Erick though. Despite Imogen's belief that he's an egotistical dick who looks down on halflings as weak members...he's done nothing to support that and in general seems ok.

Her intro to the school is weird in general since timing doesn't add up. Either Callador doesn't stick with the traditional school calendar/semester set up (late aug-mid Dec, mid jan-mid may) or timing was hella coincidental. HS graduation is in June (at your typical school) and her mom SPECIFICALLY SAID she'd be home for summer. None of that adds up.

Also I'm finding it really hard to believe they'd [the teachers/adults] just leave her to her own devices when she knows nothing about the rules, etiquette or laws of the Fae. Especially with an untested ability...

I pinned down my issue - Imogen has done nothing but make ASSUMPTIONS. "Other students aren't rushing to class, so it must be ok to be late". That's not a valid assumption in a school you literally just started a hour or so ago, in a world YOU JUST LEARNED ABOUT that morning.

I'm somewhat at a loss as to why Imogen is taking EVERYTHING Erick says as insulting. As we are reminded, every other sentence it seems, she is NEW to the world of Fae. Why auto-assume he's calling you weak bc he needs to protect the "ashlings", when maybe it's bc you have way less control?

Not quite sold yet. Imogen felt inconsistent in the first 5% and it felt clunky with exposition.
