Going to try doing updates, inspired by Hannah hehe I’m about to start part 2 of this book and I think it’s gonna be a 5 star! I find rating hard but I’ve given 5 stars to books I still think about, that left an impact on me, and inspire me to keep reading. I’m hitting slumps this year and even lowered my goal. This book is inspiring me :)

My library loan finished before the book did sadly, but it’s on hold again to be fully read soon. After reading so much fantasy, it was refreshing to read short stories written so well. It’s an important read. Makes you aware of how a symptom cannot be merely suppressed by broken promises and attempts at reparation when the root refuses to be acknowledged.

There was no ‘there there’ anymore.”

On Gertrude Stein’s comment that there is no “there” in Oakland

You can imagine my surprise at finding out the title is a Radiohead reference

It's quite emotional, with some impactful aspects meant to depict the breadth of the Indigenous experience, touching on addition, broken families, adoption, search for identity, loss.
I like some perspectives more than others

Not going to finish it bc it is heading towards a mass shooting and I don't want to read about this event, no matter how literary.

I’m really loving this book. All the differing perspectives that just weave together into an amazing story. This is my 3rd day off of just relaxing and reading and this book has just pulled me in

Beautiful intro about Urban Indians and how cities/buildings/the sounds of the highway become known and respected, just as the land, because it all comes from the same source: the earth

Feels like short stories so far, every chapter is focusing on someone else with a very different story

life doesn’t work out the way stories do but the world was made of stories and stories about stories
