And now more backstory mystery on the other side. This isn’t intriguing, it’s tedious. But will I read book 2? Maybe, but that’s my book ocd talking and not my actual interest level. I’m getting annoyed with never getting the full story on either MC.

There is too much going on in this book. The MC’s names are too similar so I always have to consciously try to remember who is who. Unexplained back story for both of them that is only hinted at and never fully fleshed out. “Bloody” used as an adjective when the story is set in Baltimore. Editing boo boo’s. It’s...a lot.

So, this puts me at about 15%. I don't think I am going to like this book. It is very, very, very juvenile and the banter, if you want to call it banter, is not cute or funny or fitting.

I'll keep going for a bit more but I might have to call this one. Ugh.

It seems we don’t have the brightest pair of detectives as MCs in this one…

“Cause of death is blood loss caused by a shot penetrating the right side of the liver. The bullet nicked the inferior vena cava causing the blood loss.”

“Do sink beneath your level of intelligence and explain that to us mere mortals, please.”


What sort of an idiot can’t understand what the doctor said? This guy is a homicide detective?

This writing is getting on my nerves… The pair of detectives, our MCs, are at the morgue to inquire about a dead man:

“He led them towards the body of Chris Henway. It was almost impossible to recognize him as the man they’d seen in pictures. His skin was almost white, everything looking dull and dead…”

Duh, he is a f*cking corpse!

I literally can't tell the difference between the characters. I'm not sure I'm going to be able to force myself to finish this one

The two MC's having way too similar names, Cole and Cade, is making this REALLY hard to follow. I'm just sayin'.

🤬 I HATE it when an author chooses really similar names for the MCs. Cade and Cole? Really?!? So hard to keep track of who is talking. Grggh!
