The Tomb - This story was quite difficult to read due to the choice of language which I didn't particularly enjoy. However, Lovecraft’s description leading up to Jervas Dudley entering the tomb was done expertly. He captured Jervas' ‘unfit temperament’ quite well throughout, displaying his uncanny fascination with the Hyde family but also the supernatural conversations with the dead. I enjoyed how this story ended.

The Beast in the Cave - Lovecraft captured the rationality of the mind in moments of peril, showing how we naturally feel that we are different and have enough control over our state of mind that we would not succumb to the same madness as others.
The Alchemist - The story was effortlessly engaging. The history and consequences of his family's curse was well described and overall was a great piece.
