there’s so much to say about mercy killings as an expression of love in this story. first between louis and noé, now with jeanne and vanitas (and later with vanitas and noé). i still don’t think vanitas actually loves jeanne, but i DO believe that he cares about her. and maybe it’s BECAUSE he doesn’t love her yet that he’s able to make such a promise so easily

hmmmm both jeanne and noé start becoming interested in vanitas when he makes an expression that intrigues them. when he lets his mask drop for a second and they see a glimpse of the true emotions underneath. very interesting parallel indeed

i do think that tiny reaction panel after jeanne tells vanitas that she’s always too busy protecting luca to actually enjoy paris shows that at least SOME of this act is genuine. i think after hearing that, he does actually want to show jeanne around and give her a good day off. that kindness happens to fit in perfectly with his act, so no harm done in his eyes

LOVE domi doing the work of analyzing this shallow relationship so i don’t have to. jeanne is an easy target for vanitas’ games because she’s so unused to people showing her ANY kindness. it’s probably also why she latched onto domi so quickly (although that’s MUCH less one-sided and ultimately the better ship but i digress)

LOVE noé’s viewpoint of humans and vampires and how it compares to vanitas’. noé recognizes that both humans and vampires can be evil, like vanitas stated before, BUT the part that vanitas doesn’t want to see is that both humans and vampires can be KIND too. noé knows that, and so he takes neither side. both viewpoints are neutral and looked down upon but for different reasons
